Description
550001957 De Havilland DH82A Tiger Moth Conversion: Thruxton Jackaroo Prototype (Series 1) Rare & Airworthy
For sale: Thruxton Jackaroo G-AOEX, the original Series 1 prototype from the modified DH82A Tiger Moth.
Developed at Thruxton Aerodrome, Hampshire, the Jackaroo was designed as a four-seat cabin biplane, using war surplus Tiger Moth airframes. Only two prototypes were built in 1956, with G-AOEX being the first, test-flown by Lt-Cdr Pat Shea-Simonds on March 2, 1957.
In total, only 19 aircraft were converted, including three for crop spraying. Today, just five remain airworthy, making G-AOEX an exceptionally rare example.
Key Details:
Restored in December 2022, with very low flying hours since completion
New LAA Permit to Fly issued valid until January 9, 2026
Just completed its annual inspection and LAA permit renewal
Formerly owned and operated by the Wiltshire School of Flying, still in its classic WSF red and silver livery
Always hangared since 1985
This is a fantastic opportunity to own a piece of aviation history with proven provenance and excellent condition.
